Principles of Partnering

A major part of our research is dedicated to exploring principles of partnering. Grounded in both theoretical inquiry and embodied practice, this initiative develops a systematic approach to analyzing partnering work across traditions of practice, including social dance partnering, contact improvisation, classical and contemporary concert dance, figure skating, and acrobatics. Pairing movement analysis (including physics and biomechanics) with normative analysis on trust, care, and empathy, this research project seeks to refine techniques, expand choreographic possibilities, and support safer practices for partner work. This project serves as a resource for dancers, educators, and researchers interested in the art and science of shared movement.
